DESIGNING CHAIR No. 1
I’ve been having trouble with chair no. 1. Until today. After consuming videos and books, and deciding what I thought I could tackle, I was beginning to follow a customized version of a pattern from a video.
But everything kept going wrong. And feeling off. After 3-4 days of this I decided it would be best to start from scratch, with my own design, starting with a circle (which is how I begin most designs from scratch).
I consulted the reference book, Human Dimension & Interior Space to make sure my dimensions will result in comfort to some human at the end of this. I decided to design a 3-legged Easy Chair, with no arms and three sticks supporting the back. Simple angles, lots of 15 degrees and 17 inches. I feel confident that I can build this simple chair, and I have some reason to hope it will turn out as a useful piece of furniture.
I’ve just finished sketching it out. Now to make it real…
